THE PAINTING LAIRD |
|
The Painting Laird Joseph Farquharson, Deeside's well-loved Victorian artist, is best known for his meticulous, snow-covered landscapes, in many cases with Finzean Estate as a backdrop. Often tinged with the glow of a rising sun, the carefully observed trees in silhouette and the foreground animals – usually sheep – bring Joseph Farquharson's canvases to life. Born in Edinburgh in 1846, Joseph studied fine art at the Trustees' School in Edinburgh. During the 1880s, he was a pupil of Carolus Duran in Paris, where he met the American artist, John Singer Sargent, with whom he travelled and painted in Cairo, Egypt. |
